The role of mosque education in the integration of Turkish–Dutch youth: perspectives of Muslim parents, imams, mosque teachers and key stakeholders

This study addresses the perceived role of mosque education in integration Turkish–Dutch Muslim children Netherlands. It is based on interviews with imams, teachers, parents students, chairs migrant organizations, policymakers and experts (N = 75). Most respondents 49) view as potentially aiding children, often depending whether mosques adopt this a policy train imams teachers accordingly. Mosque by many contributing to teaching values respect tolerance, offering positive identity affirmation children’s stigmatized Islamic countering youth radicalization providing messages moderation. While sixteen participants see irrelevant for integration, ten voice concerns about potential cause value confusion, alienate students from Dutch society indoctrinate them Turkish state propaganda. Implications are discussed.
